BWC: Man threatens NYPD officers with knife before fatal OIS

Officers first attempted to stop the man with a TASER, but he continued to advance toward them with a knife

NEW YORK — The NYPD released body camera footage showing an officer-involved shooting of a man who tried to attack officers with a knife.

The May 13 incident began when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a person threatening to attack another individual. After interviewing the caller and identifying the suspect, the officers entered the suspect’s apartment.

While the officers were interacting with the suspect, the suspect reached into his waistband and pulled out a knife. As the suspect advanced toward the officers with the knife, one officer deployed a TASER.

The suspect continued to advance, prompting one officer to fire shots, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was declared deceased.

The incident remains under investigation.
